Throughout my life I have enjoyed meeting new people. It is through meeting new people and taking interest in them as a potential friend and not a pit stop for conversation that I have found something that I do well. Something that I know how to do well is make other people around me feel better about themselves, a situation or their potential.

I consider myself to be a champion of others. I know I do it well due to the fact on numerous occasions I have been informed by the impacted party that they appreciated the enthusiasm that I brought to their day. I got interested in the topic of attitude when working in he world of sales. I couldn't understand how co-workers were already mentally defeated before the work day started. This had a negative impact on my day and most likely on their job performance. I made it a point to start modeling positive thinking and actions. This skill, if it is to be considered one, is something that I continue to develop. I started to develop this skill by making a conscious decision that attitude is something that I can control, and if I had a positive attitude I could impact other peoples' attitudes. In a recent visit back to Kansas, where I used to live and work, some former co-workers mentioned how different it is without me there, and how negativity had started to permeate the company I formerly worked for.

I hope to use this skill in the future by maintaining a family that does not get mentally defeated, ensuring that the cancer of negativity is not allowed to spread. In addition, I hope that when I become a teacher that fellow teachers become purveyors of positiveness. At times this sounds ridiculous, however I strongly believe that if you go into something with a positive attitude positive results are likely to follow.

JF: Interesting outlook. When did you understand that this is a strength worth developing? How did you start out developing this skill? You example of leading salespeople is a good one. Once you develop your ideas in more detail, you could add an introduction and conclusion for emphasis.
